about

Gracie came about one evening, after a conversation with Neil Macleod (flute, harmonica, bass clarinet) that emerged while we were sitting in the lounge room at my house, talking about our connection with ancestors and loved ones passed. Neil in his wisdom, shared how he connects with his ancestors by repeating their name out loud over and over again - how that helps him feel connected and receive insights and wisdom. He asked of my grammies name, Grace, then began to repeat her name out loud. I'd often had this memory or sensation of her smiling in my heart. Sure enough, as he repeated her name out loud, we could feel her presence in the room quite profoundly.

The track has received some beautiful reviews, including this one from former ABC broadcaster Amy McDonald:

“As soon as Kate Leopold starts singing, you know you're going to succumb to her story-telling. Your heart tells you to take her hand and let her lead you through something that might sting a little, pang a little, make you smile a little. Before you know it, you're on that journey boots and all, and you're there until the final note sounds.

"Gracie" is the latest song by Leopold's Treat, and it will make you wish you had ten pairs of ears for every nuance in the lyrics, every strum and slide of guitar, every rise and fall of this beautifully crafted offering. There's angst in this song, but you have to tap into something of yourself for it to be truly realised...just as Leopold's Treat taps into itself to bring you this hauntingly honest sound. I found myself reflecting on things lost, loved ones lost, opportunities missed to speak a truth, if only to myself.

"Just like my Mother and all my Mothers before" is the line that packed the punch for me. It's powerful. It reminded me of a quote I once heard from a lecturer at uni. "Women are born of women," she told us, "and that's why the bond is so strong."
Is it any wonder I wanted to stay on that journey of "Gracie" til the very end?”

about

Leopold's Treat Gold Coast, Australia

Leopold's Treat recently took home the award for 'Emerging Artist of the Year' in the Gold Coast Music Awards, and are pretty excited about that. In a recent review of their single 'Cold River', Anthony Gebhardt (Blank GC) drew parallels to the vibe of the Waifs and concluded "one is left bathing in a warm glow as the sun sets and the cold river washes over and invigorates ones musical soul”. ... more
